WRECK DIVES

In 2006 in the fishing village of Tabaiba close to Santa Cruz de Tenerife the tug boat “El Pejin” was sunk here. The wreck has been prepaired for divers, and so you can enter nearly every part of it (engine room, cabin…). The ship formed an artificial reef, so you will found a lot of marine life at this divesite: cuttlefish, octopuses, trumpet fish, anemones and barracudas.

One of Tenerife’s best wreck dives.

TENERIFE

Tenerife, with its 2,000 square kilometers, make it the largest island in the Canary archipelago. It originated 12 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity. In its centre lies Mount Teide – the highest mountain in Spain. As well as the Pico (Peak) del Teide there are numerous other mountain ranges (Anaga, Teno, Las Canadas for example).
which make it the perfect holiday destination for hikers. In addition there are numerous attractions for family groups, not forgetting the many beautiful beaches.

Such attractions include:- Amusement Parks (Siam Park, Aqualand) Climbing Parks Jungle Parks Loro Parque – the world famous parrot park Botanical Gardens Museums (in the capital city of Santa Cruz) Wineries (bodegas) and wine museums Paragliding Whale and dolphin trips Fishing trips on large trawlers (tuna, wahoo, sharks, barracuda , marlin etc) Theatre, live concerts, musicals, shows Go-karting Jeep safari trips over Mt Teide Cablecar trips to the summit of Mt Teide Mountain biking For water sport enthusiasts there are many options available – jet skiing, surfing, wakeboarding, fly-boarding, whale watching to list but a few. One of Tenerife´s major attractions is of course the mild climate enjoyed on the island with pleasant year-round temperatures.

The water temperature is 24 degrees in summer and l8 degrees in winter. A special feature of the island is its variety of vegetation. Many species of plants grow here, some of which are indigenous to the Canary Islands and to Tenerife alone – the Canary Island pine for example, succulent spurge and Canary Dragon Tree.

Regarding wildlife, the pilot whales found here are more common than anywhere else in the world particularly in the strait between Tenerife and La Gomera (another of the Canary Islands to the west of Tenerife).

ALCALA

Tourism has not yet spoiled the local charm of Alcala where around the central plaza the locals meet to chat in the warm sunshine. Around the plaza and adjacent harbour area there are many small cafes together with several excellent restaurants serving locally caught fresh fish together with the famous Spanish “tapas”. Just off the plaza lies a small black sand beach and fishing harbour. In addition, a beautiful new promenade has been created beyond the harbour with more beaches, salt water pools and a children´s playground. Here one has direct access to the refreshing cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean. There is a local market held in the village square of Alcala opposite the centre every Monday between l0 am and 2 pm. Along the main street of the town there are a variety of shops with supermarkets close by.
